Pestalozzi hosts the East Sussex branch of a network of Development Education Centres which actively promotes social justice, equity and sustainable development to local schools, children and community groups.
Pestalozzi is unique as an Education Centre because we work with the Pestalozzi students who share their experiences of their home countries with schools, community groups and the general public.
The terms ‘Development Education’, ‘Global Dimension’, ‘Global Citizenship’ and ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ relate to the same basic aims and principles: actively promoting social justice, equity and sustainable development.

Our aims are:
To increase awareness and understanding of education for global citizenship and sustainable development in schools (teachers and pupils), community groups and the general public.
To recognise the links between the local and the global so that each of us recognises our own responsibilities towards a peaceful, fair and sustainable future.
Through our workshops and training sessions our participants develop the skills and understanding they need to become informed and responsible citizens. This will provide opportunities to engage in broader political, social, economic, cultural and environmental issues and dilemmas that we all face in our lives. Building empathy, appreciating diversity, developing critical thinking and conflict resolution skills are key components to this approach.
London and the South East Region - Global Dimension (LaSER-GD)

PIDEC is part of a consortium of organisations, mainly Development Education Centres, which are involved in this project and is funded by the Department for International Development. The project aims to provide teachers with more effective sustained support in incorporating a global dimension into their teaching so that all pupils can receive an education which enables them to understand the key global considerations which will shape their lives. The consortium works together strategically in order to provide a cohesive and coordinated approach to the support given to teachers and schools.
One outcome of the project has been the establishment of a dedicated website: www.local4global.org.uk
