Globetrotters After-School Club
Globetrotters After-School Club “Globetrotters” is aimed at primary schools and raises awareness of global issues in a more informal setting. Each year the project partners co-deliver three after-school clubs with teachers. Each club lasts for 7 weeks followed by a presentation by the children to an assembly of the wider school community. Each week the clubs ‘visit’ a different country in the developing world. The children learn about issues affecting these places through role play, debate, quizzes and simulation games. Pupils and their teachers learn about reducing poverty and are encouraged to see how their actions as consumers can contribute to reducing global poverty. This 3 year project is funded by the Department of International Development (DfID) with Pestalozzi in partnership with Kent and the Wider World (based in Maidstone) and the World Education Development Group (based in Canterbury). | "Thank you! The club has been great and has really enhanced the children’s knowledge and understanding of different countries and cultures." Madeleine Kahn, teacher, Polegate School, June 07 |
