PESTALOZZI BARN

Pestalozzi Barn

Meet at Reception for a special Friends of Pestalozzi tour and exhibition of the brand new Pestalozzi Barn, designed and created by Grand Designs' favourite project developer, Ben Law.

For many years Pestalozzi has been a centre for teaching about environmental and sustainability issues and is currently working in partnership with WWF International and Bioregional to become the first educational establishment based on One Planet Living[1] principles. Exciting changes are already taking place on site with the development of a new garden at the heart of Pestalozzi. The first phase has been the building of a round wood timber storage barn by the author Ben Law, whose building of his own house was filmed for Channel 4's Grand Designs programme.

The barn is unique in that it was built as part of an educational project to train new eco-builders in the techniques of building sustainable, affordable buildings. The barn will be used for teaching school groups, disadvantaged youngsters and the general public about environmental issues, sustainability, permaculture, eco-buildings, biodiversity and One Planet Living Principles. Set in the new organic garden, close to an established pond, an energy lab (demonstrating renewable energy and eco-building principles) and mixed woodland within 75 hectares of grounds situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Meet at 3:00 at reception, cost £1 for the tour plus tea and cake in Swiss Hall at a further £1 for adults, 50p for children under 12, under 5s free.
