In April 2007 Rother District Council overwhelmingly approved the exciting plans to regenerate the local charity, ensuring a future for the community landmark which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
The Pestalozzi redevelopment fundamentally includes increasing student numbers to 60 as well as a flagship conference centre and accommodation facilities to provide a sustainable income to help more people from the developing world work their own way out of poverty.
Pestalozzi plan to use local products and local suppliers for the rebuild, and the project will be a model of best practice in environmental design, in keeping with the charity’s sustainable development ethos.
The refurbishment plans for the Pestalozzi Village, which is located in a 175 acre site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Sedlescombe, East Sussex, include providing extensive new accommodation, educational, conferencing and dining facilities in state of the art, environmentally friendly, sustainably designed buildings. A number of existing important buildings will be renovated and adapted for future use and the scheme will be complemented with a discrete high quality residential development.
