Jyoti Pandey

Jyoti Pandey, Pestalozzi AlumnaJyoti Pandey left Pestalozzi in 2004 and is now working in the social protection unit of the World Bank’s Nepal country office in Kathmandu. She also helps run an educational charity, Samaanta Foundation.

The World Bank is supporting the Government of Nepal to strengthen its social safety nets system. I work with the counterpart ministries to help implement World Bank funded projects and conduct policy analysis to support the policy dialogue with the government.

In addition, I help run Samaanta Foundation, a newly founded non-profit organization that provides higher education fellowships to students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. Fellows are selected from public schools on the basis of their academic potential, financial need and a commitment to social responsibility. The fellowship covers tuition fees, accommodation, and related expenses like transportation or lab and exam fees. In addition, Samaanta is working to offer the fellows extra-curricular support, mentorship and networking opportunities to enrich their educational experience. I am mainly responsible for the mentorship program but I help with all aspects of the fellowship including recruitment of fellows, school placements and fundraising.

I was at Pestalozzi between 2002 and 2004. The two years at Pestalozzi were the foundation of an incredible international educational and social experience. It gave me a solid basis for my further education and experience of living in an international community. Living at Pestalozzi complemented the international orientation of the IB studies that we were undertaking. Following the IB Diploma, I obtained a BA in Economics and International Relations from Connecticut College in the US and a Masters in Public Policy from Germany.

Pestalozzi supported me during difficult financial circumstances during my schooling when the government scholarship I was receiving was abruptly curtailed after tenth grade. The scholarship enabled me to continue my education, an opportunity I have cherished.
